Pack Travel Size Items in Your Carry-On to Be Prepared for Unexpected Events

Being prepared for the unexpected is important any time you are traveling. While you expect the airline to handle your luggage with care, that does not always happen. They might lose your luggage and put it on a plane to New York City -- and you were on their flight to Los Angeles. Your luggage could have run into problems, if it was tossed around and the handle broke, or it may have gotten caught in a conveyer belt, causing the bag to explode open, because the zipper caught or the case was torn.

One thing you can do is to make sure you keep travel size items and related products in your carry-on. You should pack toiletries, headache and allergy medicines, sunscreen, antacids and any other item you use on a regular basis. Just remember, with aerosols, liquids and gels, you are limited to one single clear, zipping plastic bag for all of your items. Further, it is a good idea to pack at least one change of clothes in your carry-on bag.

In addition to your personal care, you should also pack travel size items to help you make quick repairs when unexpected accidents occur, including duct tape, safety pins, and a sewing kit. Going back to the example of your checked bag having the handle broken or being torn open -- with the duct tape in your carry-on bag, you would be able to seal up any rips or tears in the bag, as well as use the tape and safety pins to reattach the broken handle.
